Since our inception, the 160th SOAR(Abn) has filled its ranks with “tested volunteers.” This means that all Warrant Officers must apply and assess for service in the 160th. This application process begins when you submit your packet and ends when you report for duty.

As a Special Aviator, you will be tasked with piloting and commanding a wide array of helicopters under tactical and non-tactical conditions.
Pilot and Command helicopters under tactical and non-tactical conditions
Operate aircraft during all types of meteorological conditions during day or night.
Performing military aircraft operation in support of peacetime training, disaster relief and combat, combat support and combat service support missions.

Your missions will take you to every corner of the world. You will deploy into forward operating to participate in the full spectrum of military operations.

Special Aviators are firstly tested to deem applicability for the rigors of the job. Once accepted they will undergo the following:
27 Sessions of aviation related training to include; Basic Combat Skills, Basic Flight Skills, Aircraft Qualification Training, Basic Mission Qualification Training.
Follow on training within the unit in order to gain Full Mission Qualified status and Flight Lead Qualified status.
Promotion opportunities are regularly available but competitive and based on performance.
